Welcome to the developer blog for Space Capitalism Simulator!
I’ve been creating virtual reality software since the days of the Oculus Rift DK2. I have created things like: a show room for products in virtual reality, a virtual reality horror game to demo cryptocurrency-gated content, and a game that might look familiar – Ultiwatch.
Ultiwatch was a game meant to be a lot like Scribblenauts, but in VR. You could ask your watch to spawn many different items for you and you could use those items to solve puzzles in different ways. It was a really neat project, but the core of the game depended on Google’s voice recognition API. It didn’t really work well for everyone’s voice and ultimately I scrapped the project because of it.
You might have noticed from the trailer that there are a lot of similarities between Ultiwatch and Space Capitalism Simulator. This is because I used a lot of the same assets for the two projects and also re-used some of the code. That’s really where the similarities end. Level design has been vastly improved, there are tons of new objects, sound design has come a long way, the physics system is completely different, and much much more.
Why am I working on this game? Ultimately, I want to make fun experiences for people in virtual reality. I could release the game in alpha or beta on Steam (as so many developers do these days), but I would rather create something that people feel was worth the money they spent on the game. I also have a ton of fun working on it! I won’t release the game until I feel it’s a good buy at $5.
What will you find in this blog? This blog will not only showcase exclusive progress of Space Capitalism Simulator, but it will also give you some insight into the trials and tribulations of game development from someone who has picked up these skills in their spare time. I’m not a professional, but my hope is that you will learn from the mistakes I make and perhaps have a laugh at some of the mishaps I find myself in.
